This coin consist of a superbly crafted collector's Proof. This coin is a mirror image of the original. These coins are known as Bufallo, Bison, and Indian Head nickels. The first year this coin was issued was 1923, with two varieties minted. The first showing the bison on a mound, and and the second redesigned with a straight thin line. The coin was designed by James E. Fraser, and his initial 'F' is located beneath the date. The bison was modeled after a bison named 'Black Diamond' who was housed in the New York Central Park Zoo. No one knows how many of the genuine 1937-D three legged error coins actually exist. However, one thing is certain, these coins in proof condition sell for thousands of dollars.
